The Rockhampton Region Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has transitioned into the recovery phase as floodwaters recede and clean-up efforts continue across the region.

The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed flooding is no longer occurring along the Fitzroy River, allowing Council and partner agencies to progress recovery and reinstatement works.

LDMG Deputy Chair and Rockhampton Region Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said the shift to recovery marks an important step forward for the community.

"Moving into the recovery phase means the immediate threat has passed, and our attention is now on helping the community return to normal as quickly and safely as possible," Deputy Mayor said.

"With river levels stabilising and flood waters easing, our focus is now on safely reopening affected areas and progressing clean-up works with a number of public facilities already cleaned.

"Today, Council crews will commence assessment and clean-up of the Derby Street and Archer Street car parks, which were closed during the flood event, and we expect those to reopen within the next 24 hours.

"The Water Street Flood Barrier is in the process of being removed, and we hope to restore access for residents within the next day."

Deputy Mayor thanked residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation throughout the event.

"We know closures and restrictions can be disruptive, but these decisions are always made with safety front of mind," Deputy Mayor said.

"As we move through recovery, people may notice increased Council activity as we inspect infrastructure, carry out clean-ups and reinstate affected areas.

"Residents are reminded to continue exercising caution around waterways and flood-affected areas, and to follow any remaining safety advice."
