Bland Shire Council Invites Community Leaders to Join Visitor Economy and Growth Committee

Bland Shire Council is inviting tourism and business representatives to apply for membership on the newly established Visitor Economy and Growth Committee (VEGC), an advisory body providing guidance on Bland Shire's visitor economy and economic development.

The VEGC will provide strategic advice to Council on tourism, events, local business growth, investment attraction, and regional prosperity. The Committee is a key part of Council's plan to strengthen local industries, support entrepreneurship, and create new opportunities for jobs and investment.

Mayor of Bland Shire, Brian Monaghan, said "The Visitor Economy and Growth Committee will play an important role in helping our Shire thrive. By bringing together local leaders and business experts, we can develop strategies that strengthen our communities, attract visitors and create opportunities for growth across the region."

The Committee will comprise three Councillors (Crs Holly Brooks (Chair), Mal Carnegie, and Emma Henderson), three community representatives, the General Manager (or delegate), and the Tourism and Administration Officer. Meetings will be held at least bi-monthly, typically on Mondays from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, at the Bland Shire Council Chambers, 6 Shire Street, West Wyalong. Members are expected to actively contribute to discussions and support the development of practical strategies for the Shire.

Chair of the VEGC, Holly Brooks, said "We're looking for community members and business operators who are committed to the future of Bland Shire. This is a real chance to have your ideas heard and help shape initiatives that benefit local businesses, tourism and our community as a whole."

Council seeks representatives with experience or expertise in tourism, event management, business, agribusiness, or marketing. Ideal candidates will have an understanding of local issues, a willingness to collaborate, and the ability to represent a broad range of perspectives across towns, villages and rural areas.

Interested candidates should submit an Expression of Interest addressing the sector they represent (tourism or economic development), the qualities they bring to the Committee and a resume. Applications should be emailed to [email protected] addressed to the Bland Shire Council General Manager, by 5pm on Wednesday 22 October 2025.
