Applications are now open for the 2027 Moira Shire Community Leadership Program, giving local people the skills, confidence and networks to step into leadership roles across the shire.
Open to all Moira Shire residents aged 18 and over, the program welcomes people from every township, background and life experience.
Participants will build practical skills in public speaking, governance, strategy, policy, communication and values-based leadership. They will also explore leadership in emergencies, including preparedness, resilience and community response, drawing on Moira Shire's own emergency experiences.
Close to 40 locals have graduated since the program began in 2024 and has seen participants go on to new roles within the community as well as be accepted into the Fairley Leadership Program to further their leadership pathways.
Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM encourages all applications from across the community.
"Our graduates have shown what's possible when people back themselves. They've stepped outside their comfort zones, supported one another and taken their new skills into community groups, workplaces and further leadership programs," Dr Emonson said.
"This program will help participants build the skills and confidence to lead in their communities, while fostering new connections and inspiring the next generation of local leaders. If you care about your community, I encourage you to apply. Leadership starts here."
Applications are open and will close on Monday 07 December 2026 with the program prepared to commence at the end of January 2027.
