The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 27-year-old male in relation to a domestic violence incident after which he assaulted responding police in Alice Springs yesterday.
Around 1pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that an adult female had sought refuge from her partner at a licenced premises on Milner Road in Gillen.
It is alleged when a male employee aged in his 50s attempted to prevent the 27-year-old male from entering the premises, he was struck to the head by the offender and fell to the ground, resulting in a serious injury to his hip region. He was subsequently conveyed to hospital for treatment.
Police attended and arrested the 27-year-old. During the arrest, the offender allegedly spat in the face of one officer, before spitting on a second officer and headbutting them to the side of the face.
After he was securely placed inside the police vehicle, the 27-year-old allegedly attempted to self-harm and was conveyed to hospital by St John Ambulance in a stable condition for assessment. He remains in hospital for treatment of an unrelated injury understood to have been suffered prior to the incident.
