Greater Shepparton City Council's Amplify Youth Committee is preparing for an evening of festive fun with a free outdoor cinema event at Victoria Park Lake on Saturday 5 December.
The event will commence at 6pm and conclude at approximately 10pm following the screening. At 8pm, attendees can enjoy the much-loved fantasy adventure The Polar Express (G), a family-friendly film that is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
The evening will also feature live performances from local young bands including Dirty Denim and a variety of food trucks, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere for the community to enjoy. The event is free to attend, and community members are encouraged to bring a picnic rug or camping chair and enjoy a memorable night by the lake.
The Amplify Youth Committee is a group of young people aged 12 to 25 years that come together from across Greater Shepparton to plan events designed for young people. The committee have planned this event to bring together people of all ages and create a welcoming space where the community can connect and celebrate the festive season.
Mayor, Councillor Geoff Akers said community events like these were important to bring people of all ages together.
"Events like this are the perfect way to provide opportunities for people of all ages to connect, get outdoors, celebrate the festive season, and enjoy free community activities in a safe and welcoming environment," he said.
"The Amplify Youth Committee provides Council with a direct link to our local youth, allowing us to see a young person's perspective and hear from young people on topics that really matter to them."
Amplify Youth Committee members Isabella Lemma and Ruth Pacquing have been working hard to plan the event and said they were excited to see their vision come to life.
"Not everyone gets the chance to attend paid events, so it's great that this one is free and open to everyone, especially young people," Isabella said.
"It's rewarding to see an idea discussed at Amplify Committee meetings become a real event that people can attend and enjoy," Ruth said.
The Amplify Outdoor Cinema is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit. Everyone is encouraged to bring their family to enjoy live music, food, and a movie. This event will have something for everyone.
The event is supervised and is a drug, vaping, smoking and alcohol-free event.
