Lebanon Sets Quality Standards for Elder Care Homes

In Beirut, ESCWA, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), organized on 12 October a workshop to review the first draft of the quality standards for older persons' care institutions in Lebanon.

The workshop brought together members of the Permanent National Commission for Older Persons, as well as experts, representatives of older persons' care institutions in Lebanon, and representatives of several UN agencies.

The workshop aimed to discuss and review the proposed standards with a view to endorsing them or introducing the necessary amendments, while ensuring their clarity, applicability, and measurability, and relevance to the Lebanese context.

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to develop national standards that enhance the quality of care and services provided to older persons in Lebanon, safeguard their rights and dignity, and support their autonomy and quality of life.
