At an official launch event held on Monday, 27 November 2023, Leeton Shire Council unveiled its new classroom at the Leeton Early Learning Centre (LELC), which will see the service expand from 68 to 88 places per day from the new year.

Councillors and staff, along with the local tradesmen involved in the project were in attendance to celebrate both the completion of the build and the formal approval to operate the building that was granted by the NSW Department of Education on Monday, 20 November.

Council's Manager Business Services Brent Lawrence acknowledged the support of the elected Council and the strong emphasis and priority they have placed on increasing childcare services in the Leeton community.

"Our councillors' advocacy and investment into this project will long be remembered by the many families and children that we continue to welcome through the doors at LELC for generations to come."

"We're also very proud to be able to say that we had ten different local tradesmen work on the delivery of this project. It's great to be able to support local businesses that contribute so much to our local economy."

Mayor Cr Tony Reneker added that this expansion project helps alleviate the waiting list for places and highlights the importance of ensuring that Leeton can offer childcare services that support skilled workers returning to the workforce as early as possible.

"Expansion of the Leeton Early Learning Centre will enable more families to utilise this service and gives us the ability to bring in more children in the 0-3 age bracket which is where we're experiencing the highest demand."

The new classroom will open to local families on Tuesday, 9 January 2024.
