Liberals pay executives $415,000 to leave while cutting support for schools
Eric Abetz is cutting $228 million from education while handing more than $415,000 to senior executives to walk out the door.
Right to Information documents show 10 senior executives have left the Department for Education, Children and Young People with exit payouts since July 2024, and the cost has ballooned in the past year.
Since July 2024, $415,000 was paid to 10 departing executives, with one receiving more than $122,000 to leave.
At the same time, the Liberals are cutting a quarter of the Inclusive Practice Team, the specialists who help teachers support students with disability.
Schools are being told to tighten their belts. Teachers are stretched to breaking point. Students with disability are losing support. But somehow there's always money for executive payouts.
Every dollar wasted on an executive exit is a dollar that should be in a classroom.
Tasmanian teachers and support staff do outstanding work, yet our students still have the worst education outcomes of any state in the country.
Premier Rockliff has put Eric Abetz in charge of cutting jobs and services to pay for 13 years of Liberal waste, and it's our children and young people paying the price.
