Liberals Push Tasmanians to Fix Budget Despite 'No New Taxes' Promise

Tasmanian Labor

Tasmania's budget is clearly in a state of disrepair under the mismanagement of the Liberals.

Tasmanians are in the midst of a health, housing and cost of living crisis, yet the Rockliff Government continues to provide no relief.

Instead, they are leaning on Tasmanians to prop up the budget through new taxes, all while remaining focussed on building an expensive stadium that will cost the taxpayer at least $460 million and result in negative economic returns.

The long list of taxes this government has, or is trying to introduce includes; a $50 million power tax, a bin tax; a fire tax; a trade waste tax and a bottle tax through the container deposit scheme.

This is all despite the Government promising no new taxes for Tasmanians.

Jeremy Rockliff and Michael Ferguson must come clean about the true state of Tasmania's budget, and they must starting taking actions to reduce pressure on Tasmanians.

The Liberals' own fiscal strategy pledges to manage the State's finances responsibly for the wellbeing of all Tasmanians.

The countless Tasmanian businesses and households struggling with skyrocketing power prices and broader cost of living issues proves they are failing on this front.

Labor has a policy to cap power price increases at 2.5 per cent each year for the next three years which will save households and businesses significant amounts of money.

The Liberals would prefer that Tasmanian businesses and households picked up the costs of soaring power to protect their busted budget.

The Government keeps on asking where additional money to help Tasmanians doing it tough with power prices should come from.

Perhaps not borrowing at least $460 million to build a stadium which will have a negative impact to the Tasmanian economy of $306 million is a good place to start.
