Libya's energy sector is central to economic development, public services and resilience. In Tripoli, Libya, ESCWA, in partnership with the Renewable Energy Authority of Libya, organized a national dialogue on transforming the country's extractive energy sector towards sustainable energy systems.
The dialogue, held on 1 September, brought together national stakeholders to go over ways for modernizing the energy sector in Libya and accelerate the transition towards sustainable, resilient and inclusive energy systems and implement the National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy 2023-2035.
Discussions also explored the role of renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable hydrogen, electricity interconnection and critical transition minerals in supporting the energy transition, alongside policy priorities to strengthen long-term energy security and sustainable development. Participants also shared experiences and developed practical recommendations for Libya's sustainable energy future.
