Lidcombe Secures New Housing, Community Facilities

NSW Gov

The Minns Labor Government is set to deliver approximately 48 new homes, including social and affordable housing, at Lidcombe in Sydney's western suburbs.

This site is the latest to be locked in as part of the NSW Government's Building Homes for New South Wales program, which will deliver up to 30,000 homes on government sites, including 8,400 new public homes, giving priority to women and children fleeing violence.

Homes NSW will take freehold ownership of a 3.16-hectare site at Betty Cuthbert Drive, after reaching an agreement with Property and Development NSW (PDNSW).

Under the proposal, Homes NSW plans to subdivide the land into 38 lots, making way for 48 new homes, including 18 social and affordable dwellings.

The agreement follows a successful rezoning and is subject to final subdivision registration by Land Registry Services.

The new homes will be positioned next to the new Lidcombe Wellbeing Centre for multiple sclerosis awareness organisation MS Plus which opened in March courtesy of a $16 million funding agreement with the NSW Government.

Homes NSW will now commence work to finalise the concept plans for the enabling works.

Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper said:

"The Minns Government has made housing our number one priority, and this is yet another example of our efforts to deliver a range of housing options that will give everyone a chance to have a roof over their heads.

"We understand we need to build better communities and every home counts. These plans will deliver a mixed-use community here at Lidcombe, which is close to shops, transport and other key services, which delivers housing, and an important wellness centre for MS Plus".

Minister for Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson said:

"This is another important step in our mission to build more homes for the people of NSW, especially in growing communities like Western Sydney."

"We're turning underused government land into real homes, including new social and affordable housing for people who need it most."

"We've already delivered the biggest increase in public housing in over a decade, and now we're backing it in with more projects like this."

"This is part of the biggest housing build in NSW's history, because everyone deserves a safe, secure place to call home."
