Like Minister Ogilvie, growth strategy is nowhere to be seen

Tasmanian Labor

The Liberal Government's inability to deliver on a promised business growth strategy demonstrates they are all talk and no action.

In July, the government promised Tasmanian small businesses a Growth Strategy, but true to form just days out from Christmas they have again failed to deliver.

Tasmanians want the government to do what they say they will do and deliver on their promises.

Most businesses succeed without government intervention and many simply want them to get out of the way, but for the businesses who were looking forward to how the growth strategy might inform and support their future investment decisions they have again been let down.

A key plank for any business growth strategy in Tasmania at present, given our skyrocketing power bills, has to be to adopt Labor's policy of capping power price increases at 2.5 per cent each year for the next three years.

Twice we tried to legislate to achieve this during the year and twice the State Liberal Government voted it down.

Tasmanian businesses and households are really hurting at present.

The past couple of years have been a really challenging time for small businesses.

The government was also slow to act and offered little in way of support to the many businesses devastated by the broken promise of being prepared for the December 15, 2021 border reopening.

Businesses want a government that understands their concerns and drives opportunities for growth.

Instead what Tasmanians have got is a Minister who is all talk and can't get even get the basics right.

Minister Ogilvie can't hide any longer and must deliver the strategy as a priority in the New Year.

Shadow Minister for Small Business
