Tweed residents are invited to attend a community service of commemoration at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School at Terranora on Thursday morning to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The service on Thursday commences at 9 am sharp in the school chapel at 86 Mahers Lane, Terranora and will go for 60 minutes.
The school choir will be in attendance and the public will be able to sign the school's condolence book.
This event is open to the Tweed community and there is no need to book.
Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry will also speak at the service.
Cr Cherry has expressed sympathies to members of the royal family on behalf of the Tweed.
"It truly is the end of an era – Queen Elizabeth II was Britain's longest-serving monarch with an unmatched 70 years at the helm," Cr Cherry said.
"Queen Elizabeth ruled during challenging times and various significant world events. She had a special relationship with Australia and its people, visiting 16 times between 1954 and 2011 and was always greeted warmly by people across the nation.
"Above all, she was an incredible example of service and loyalty and an inspiration for both Councillors and staff who are working to serve our community in local government."
A national memorial service will be broadcast live from Parliament House in Canberra on Thursday from 11 am.
The border marker in Tweed Heads will continue to project images of the Queen as a special tribute, while the lights on the bridge at Murwillumbah will remain purple until Thursday evening.
