Little Plants Making Big Difference

Council's nursery crew together with OzFish Unlimited - Cairns Chapter and Gimuy Walubara Yidinji Rangers have been busy collecting Mangrove Holly (Acanthus ilicifolius) cuttings from Lily Creek.

After putting down roots at Council's Stratford nursery, more than 900 seedlings have been potted up and are getting ready for their big move.

Soon they'll be planted along the creek to help stabilise banks and restore vital habitat for native fish and birds.

Lily Creek flows from the foothills of Mt Whitfield through our suburbs and out to the Great Barrier Reef Lagoon – so every plant makes a difference.

We're working together to keep it healthy for generations to come.
