Local election costs

The 2020 Local Government Election cost Cairns ratepayers almost $700,000.

Cairns Regional Council has paid a total of $693,870 to the Queensland Electoral Commission for conducting the election, which included almost $400,000 in labour, $176,700 in freight and postage, and $94,300 for office space and polling booths.
