Lund University is ranked 104 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027. Although the university's position is lower than last year, its overall score remains almost unchanged.
THE WUR is one of the world's leading university rankings and assesses institutions based on factors such as research impact, teaching environment, international collaboration and reputation.
Lund University remains the second-highest ranked university in Sweden, behind Karolinska Institutet, which is ranked 55 this year, compared with 53 last year. At the same time, the ranking includes more universities than ever before, with 2,297 institutions ranked compared with 2,191 last year. Lund University's overall score is largely unchanged at 66.4, compared with 66.6 last year, but increased global competition has affected its position.
"International competition for researchers, students and resources is tough. Lund University's continued strong international standing is the result of long-term efforts. It reflects quality in research and education, important international collaborations, and our ability to attract researchers and students from around the world," says Erik Renström, Vice-Chancellor of Lund University.
A particular strength in this year's ranking is innovation and engagement with society, where Lund University improved its performance and achieved 99.8 out of 100 points. This category measures universities' ability to translate research into societal benefits through collaboration with industry and other partners, external research funding and patents.
"We achieved nearly full marks in the patents indicator, which is a very strong result internationally. This is especially gratifying since we place great importance on research and innovation benefiting society," says Erik Renström.
