Mackay welcomes new First Year Constables

Five new officers will today be welcomed to Mackay, beginning their careers as First Year Constables (FYCs) with the Queensland Police Service (QPS).

The cohort, part of 107 recent graduates who have been deployed to stations across the state, have spent the past six months at the academy and will now undertake a further 12 months of station-based training as FYCs.

Mackay Police District Officer, Superintendent Graeme Paine, said the new officers would be welcomed to the district at an orientation on Thursday before heading out to their stations in the coming days.

"This is such an exciting moment for these officers as they now begin their careers in the Queensland Police Service," he said.

"These officers will begin a 12-month program which sees them assessed on their management of a range of real-world policing scenarios.

"I congratulate them on the incredible efforts they have put into their training to-date and welcome them to Mackay to start the next step in their policing careers."

Three of these FYCs will start their career in Mackay Station, the other two will be based at Mackay Northern Beaches Station
