A record number of Macquarie disciplines have been recognised among the world's best in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Macquarie University has recorded its strongest-ever performance in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject, with a sharp rise in high-performing disciplines underscoring its growing global research impact.

For the first time, the University has a subject ranked in the world's top 20, with Philosophy achieving the milestone result.

The breakthrough headlines a broader surge across the rankings, with more Macquarie disciplines than ever before recognised among the world's best.

Three subjects across the University now sit in the top 50 globally (up from one in 2025), with a total of 12 in the top 100 (up from seven last year).

The number of subjects included in the QS rankings has increased from 27 to 42 over the past five years.

Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton said the rankings reflect a world-class university on the rise.

"Global subject rankings like QS are a strong indicator of research performance and reputation," Professor Dowton said.

"What these results show is not just excellence in pockets, but a clear and accelerating uplift across Macquarie University.

"We are seeing more disciplines enter the global stage, and more of them moving rapidly up the ranks.

"This is an impressive result and welcome recognition of the University's ongoing investment in high-quality research that continually delivers benefit and pushes the boundaries of knowledge in new and important ways."

With a record number of subjects now recognised globally, Macquarie's latest results position the University as one of Australia's fastest-rising institutions on the global stage.

"Macquarie University is building incredible momentum when it comes to our global recognition," Professor Dowton said.

"What sets Macquarie apart is the breadth of performance we're seeing across disciplines.

"This reflects the strength of our research ecosystem and its growing impact."
