Major Milestone For Kingston's Urban Forest

Mayor Georgina Oxley joined Council's Urban Forest team at Bicentennial Park in Chelsea to plant some of the first trees of the season.

Over 100,000 trees will be under Council management by the end of this year's planting program, marking a significant step towards a greener, cooler, and more resilient Kingston.

Mayor Georgina Oxley joined Council's Urban Forest team at Bicentennial Park in Chelsea to plant some of the first trees of the season, helping kick off this year's planting program.

Planting runs from May to September each year, when cooler conditions help young trees establish strong roots before the summer heat.

This year, we're aiming to plant a record 5,200 trees, including 1,200 funded through the Suburban Rail Loop Authority agreement to help replace lost canopy from major projects.

All new trees are maintained for two years, including regular watering to support healthy establishment and long-term growth.

These efforts support Council's Urban Forest Strategy and our goal of increasing canopy cover across Kingston.
