Man arrested in Miranda

A man is under police guard at hospital following an incident in southern Sydney today, NSW Police say.

Just before 9.30am today, officers attached to Miranda Local Area Command were called to a vehicle on The Boulevard, Miranda, following concerns about the welfare of a teenage girl.

As police approached the vehicle on foot, the driver allegedly drove from the scene, injuring an officer.

A pursuit ensued, but was terminated due to safety concerns.

A 46-year-old man was arrested a short time later at Gymea Railway Station; a 15-year-old girl was found nearby.

The man was taken to Sutherland Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing. It will be alleged the man attempted to escape police custody at the hospital; however, he was found nearby and taken back to the hospital.

Once the man is released, he will be taken Miranda Police Station, as inquiries continue.

The girl was uninjured during the incident. She is assisting investigators.
