Man arrested on several offences in Northbridge

Perth Detectives have charged a man after an evade police incident last night, 3 January 2020.

About 11pm, Perth Detectives sighted an Audi A6 sedan in the forecourt of a service station located on Fitzgerald Street in Northbridge. The Audi had been reported stolen from a home in Ocean Reef on 31 January 2020.

It is alleged as the driver of the Audi was attempting to leave the service station an unmarked police vehicle pulled in front of the Audi, blocking its path from proceeding onto Fitzgerald Street. The police vehicle stopped less than a metre from the front of the stolen vehicle and activated the emergency lights and sirens.

It is further alleged the man reversed the stolen Audi in an attempt to evade police and in doing so reversed into a parked vehicle causing it to strike a wall causing extensive damage before driving forward into the police car.

The driver of the Audi fled on foot and was apprehended by police.

A 29-year-old man from Clarkson is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 4 February 2020, charged with:-

• Steal Motor Vehicle;

• Driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation;

• Reckless driving to escape pursuit by police;

• No authority to drive (never held);

• Possess a Prohibited Drug (Methylamphetamine); and

• Breach of Bail Undertaking.
