Man Charged by Arson Squad for Martin House Fire

Yesterday, Thursday 30 March 2023, Arson Squad detectives charged a person as a result of their investigation into a house fire that occurred in Martin on 2 February 2023.

It will be alleged about 1pm, the 48-year-old man entered the home on Gosnells Road West with the intention of committing a burglary. It will be further alleged once he was inside the home, he ignited two fires inside the residence, both upstairs and downstairs.

The fire destroyed the entire first storey of the home. The fire damage is estimated at $350,000.

Arson Squad detectives charged the 48-year-old man from Kalamunda with:

• One count of Criminal Damage by Fire (this offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment);

• Two counts of Stealing; and

• Two counts of Home Burglary and Commit.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before the Armadale Magistrates Court today, 31 March 2023.
