Man Charged by NZ Police in New Lynn Fire

Police have charged a man following a fire at a commercial premises in New Lynn.

At around 4.15pm on 9 August, emergency services were called to a report of fire at the rear of a supermarket on Great North Road.

Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie, Waitematā CIB, says the fire was quickly extinguished by Fire and Emergency New Zealand and there were no reports of injury.

"In consultation with a fire investigator, the fire was deemed suspicious and an investigation commenced."

Police have this morning charged a 34-year-old man with arson.

He will appear in Waitākere District Court later today.
