Man charged following sexual assault, car theft, police pursuit and other offences, NSW

A man has been charged following investigations into a sexual assault in Concord, two stolen vehicles, a police pursuit, and other offences, NSW Police say.

About 7am on Sunday 16 April 2017, a 31-year-old woman met with a man at an apartment on Corby Avenue, Concord after advertising a room for rent.

After entering the apartment the man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing.

Officers from Burwood Local Area Command were contacted and began investigations into the incident.

About 11am today, following extensive investigations, investigators from Burwood Local Area Command arrested a 26-year-old Korean National at a shopping centre on Thomas Street, Haymarket.

During a search of the man, officers located a number of items, including a key from an allegedly stolen vehicle.

The items were seized and will undergo forensic examinations.

The man was taken to Sydney City Police Station where he was charged with aggravated sexual assault; choking with intent to commit serious indictable offence; take or detain for advantage; steal from dwelling; common assault (x2); take/drive conveyance (x2); police pursuit (Skye’s Law); and intimidation.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow.

Police will allege at court that charges relate to the sexual assault in Concord, as well as a number of other offences, including;

-A car stolen from a home in Strathfield on 25 March 2017.

-The assault of a woman at a home in Strathfield on 2 April 2017

-A police pursuit on 3 April 2017, in Lidcombe, and

-A car stolen from a home in Lidcombe on 16 April 2017.
