Man Charged for High-Rise Building Vandalism: Police

Fitzroy Police have charged a man following significant damage to a high-rise building in Fitzroy yesterday.

It's alleged a man damaged windows and emergency sprinklers on numerous floors of a building on Napier Street about 4.20pm.

The damage was significant and caused flooding in the building.

One resident was evacuated due to flooding but the building has now been rehabilitated.

A 29-year-old Fitzroy man was arrested at the scene and has been charged with multiple offences including criminal damage, contravene a court order, assault police, unlawful assault, possess dangerous article, commit an indictable offence whilst on bail and other offences.

He has been remanded to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
