A man has been charged in Dubbo over an alleged serious assault and robbery in the state's Far West on the weekend.
About 2pm on Sunday 13 September 2026, emergency services were called to a home on Argent Street, Broken Hill, following reports a man had been assaulted and robbed.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District arrived and found a man in his 80s with serious assault injuries.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man before he was taken to Broken Hill Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment of head injuries and fractured ribs.
Police were told a man – known to the older man – had allegedly demanded money and threatened him with a knife before assaulted him and stealing an amount of cash.
A crime scene was established at the scene, and detectives commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District arrested a 38-year-old man at a motel on Victoria Street, Dubbo, about 9pm yesterday (Monday 14 September 2026).
During a search of the motel room, police seized several items of clothing and a mobile phone.
The man was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with three offences,
· Robbery armed with offensive weapon cause wounding/grievous bodily harm
· Take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause actual bodily harm, and
· Cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.
He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 4 today (Tuesday 15 September 2026).
