Man Charged in Roxburgh Shooting, Gun Trafficking

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a man following an incident in Roxburgh Park earlier this week where a man was found with a gunshot wound following a crash.

The male driver, aged 30 from Reservoir, was located after police were called to an incident on the corner of Donald Cameron Derive and Bridgewater Road about 7pm on 13 July.

Along with injuries believed to have been sustained from the crash, the driver had a gunshot wound to the lower body. He was conveyed to hospital with life threatening injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 26-year-old Kalkallo woman, who was a passenger in the car, was also conveyed to hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained during the collision.

Just before 5.30pm last night, a 30-year-old Roxburgh Park man was arrested in Kingsbury with assistance from the Special Operations Group.

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad and Illicit Firearms Squad then executed search warrants at properties in Kingsbury and South Morang.

A 28-year-old woman was arrested at the South Morang address.

A handgun, an imitation firearms, firearm parts, ammunition, cash, a number of identification documents and substances believed to be drugs were seized from the Kingsbury property, while knuckle dusters and substances believed to be drugs were seized from the South Morang address.

The man was charged by the Armed Crime Squad in relation to the Roxburgh Park incident with the following:

  • Intentionally Cause Serious Injury
  • Recklessly Cause Serious Injury
  • Reckless Conduct Endanger Life
  • Reckless Conduct Endanger Serious Injury
  • Prohibited Person Possess Firearm
  • Prohibited Person Use Firearm
  • Possess Methyl Amphetamine
  • Prohibited Person Possess Firearm
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

Detectives from the Illicit Firearms Squad also charged him with the following offences as part of a separate investigation into alleged firearms trafficking:

  • Theft of firearms (x4)
  • Possess traffickable quantity of firearms (x3)
  • Prohibited person possess firearm

He was remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court at a later date.

The South Morang woman was charged with theft of firearms (x6), trafficking more than two firearms, possess prohibited weapon and possess drug of dependence.

She was bailed to face court at a later date.
