Man Charged Over Condell Park Shooting: Strike Force Chelston

A man will face court today charged following an investigation into a shooting that left a woman seriously injured in Sydney's south-west last month.

The 37-year-old woman – suffering a gunshot wound to her torso – arrived at the emergency department of Bankstown Hospital just before 1pm on Thursday 12 January 2023.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended and were told the woman had been driven to the hospital by a man; however, he left the area on foot prior to police arrival.

Strike Force Chelston was formed to investigate the shooting, with local detectives being assisted by the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.

Following a police operation at a home on Doris Street, Picnic Point, investigators - assisted by officers attached to the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) - arrested a 33-year-old man shortly after 10pm (Friday 10 February 2023), when he was allegedly found hiding in the roof cavity.

The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station where an outstanding warrant was executed for five offences,

* discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm,

* use unauthorised pistol,

* possess unauthorised prohibited firearm,

* possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and

* not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm.

A revocation of parole warrant was also executed.

The Condell Park man has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 11 February 2023).
