Man Charged With Arson, Theft in Southeast Region

A man has been charged following investigations into several incidents across the Gold Coast, Logan and south Brisbane region in recent weeks.

Emergency services were called to Loves Road, Woongoolba, around 7.50pm last night, 30 July, following reports a grey Ford Ranger had been set on fire, with the fire then spreading to nearby cane fields.

The Ford had allegedly been stolen from McTaggart Place, Carrara on Friday, 17 July.

Following extensive investigations by police, officers were able to allegedly link the fire and stolen vehicle to a 31-year-old Carina man, who was located at a Hawkwood Street, Mount Gravatt East property around 10.15pm last night.

The man was taken into custody, and has since been charged with two counts of bringing stolen goods into Queensland, as well as one count each of fraud - dishonestly gain benefit / advantage, unlawful use of motor vehicles – use used/intended for indictable offence, arson - motor vehicle, setting fire to vegetation, unlawful use of motor vehicles – use, receiving tainted property and other drug-related offences.

The man is due to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today, 31 July.
