Man dies after suspected fail to stop crash at Taree

A man has died following a suspected fail-to-stop crash on the state's Mid North Coast yesterday.

Just after 7pm (Sunday 18 July 2021), emergency services were called to Wingham Road, near Cedar Party Road, Taree, following reports of a concern for welfare.

A man, believed to be in his 50s, was found unconscious and suffering serious injuries.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Manning Base Hospital in a serious condition, where he later died.

A crime scene has been established by officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District and specialist investigators from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, with initial inquiries suggesting he may have been hit by a vehicle that failed to stop and render assistance.
