Man dies and another arrested after two-vehicle crash and assault near Albury, NSW

A man has died and another man arrested following a two-vehicle crash and assault in the state’s south overnight, NSW Police say.

About 8.30pm (Thursday 19 July 2018), emergency services were called to Lowe Street at Howlong, about 29km west of Albury, following reports a Nissan Navara utility and a motorcycle collided.

The rider, a man believed to be aged in his 20s, died at the scene. He has not been formally identified.

A 28-year-old man, who was also riding a motorcycle with the man, was not injured.

He allegedly assaulted the driver of the utility, a 65-year-old man, before stealing his vehicle.

The 65-year-old man suffered head injuries and was taken to Albury Base Hospital. He will also undergo mandatory testing.

Following inquiries, officers arrested the 28-year-old man near Lowe Street a short time later and he was taken to Albury Police Station.

Officers from Murray River Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
