The partnership links Manchester's Faculty of Humanities with ASU's School of Public Affairs and School of Politics and Global Studies. It also builds on existing research links between Alliance Manchester Business School, the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research and ASU's School of Public Affairs.
Students will have the chance to take part in exchanges and gain a broader international perspective, while academic colleagues will be able to develop shared research interests and learn from each other's approaches.
The two universities will collaborate through workshops and conferences, alongside sharing publications, teaching practice and course design.
ASU is consistently ranked as the most innovative university in the United States by U.S. News & World Report, taking the accolade for the 11th successive year in 2025.

The MoU sets a framework to build on our respective strengths and collaborate effectively over the years to come."
Professor Fiona Devine, Vice President and Dean for the Faculty of Humanities at The University of Manchester added: "We are delighted to develop further opportunities to collaborate between the two institutions and build on our mutual research interests in innovation and policy across Humanities."
Shannon Portillo, director of the School of Public Affairs and Coor Presidential Chair at Arizona State University said: "This MoU builds on the strong collaborations between faculty and research centers at Manchester's Faculty of Humanities and ASU's School of Public Affairs. We look forward to more connections between our faculty and students." The school is based in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University.
