Helping More Western Australian Kids Splash Into Summer

  • KidSport Regional Pools Program returns from 1 December 2026 to 28 February 2027
  • Free pool access for eligible children aged five to 18 across regional Western Australia
  • Program reduces financial barriers to physical activity and water awareness
  • Cook Labor Government's commitment to boost community participation in grassroots sports

More Western Australian kids will have access to their local swimming pools this summer, with the Cook Labor Government's KidSport Regional Pools Program returning from 1 December 2026.

The program helps reduce barriers for low-income families by providing eligible children aged five to 18 with free access to participating regional public swimming pools for up to three months.

Delivered in partnership with participating local governments, the program gives children the opportunity to stay active, build water awareness and connect with their local community over the summer months.

The program was successfully delivered across 41 local governments and 47 public swimming pools during the 2026 season, supporting approximately 800 children to access swimming and recreation opportunities within their local community.

The subsidy is available in addition to the existing KidSport Voucher Program, which supports eligible children from families who hold a valid health care or pensioner concession card, to participate in community sport.

If a family does not hold a concession card, they may be eligible to apply for special consideration.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Summer is when WA kids head to their local swimming pool, and we want to make sure cost isn't a barrier for regional families.

"The KidSport Regional Pools Program supports more kids to access their local pools, build confidence around water and enjoy being active with their friends and families.

"It's another way the Cook Labor Government is helping ease cost-of-living pressures while creating more opportunities for kids to participate, connect and thrive in their local communities."
