Man dies, second hospitalised after boat capsizes south of Yamba

A man has died and a second has been taken to hospital after a boat capsized south of Yamba this morning.

About 7am (Friday 7 May 2021), emergency services were called to the Sandon River, The Sandon, about 60km south of Yamba, following reports a boat overturned and two men were thrown into the water.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and were told one of the men sought refuge on nearby rocks before swimming to shore. He was assessed at the scene before being taken to Maclean District Hospital with minor injuries.

The second man, aged 48, washed ashore and was pulled from the water. Members of the public conducted CPR, however, he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
