Man extradited from Queensland; charged over role in public place shooting and other organised criminal activity

The NSW Police Force has charged a man with multiple serious offences, including directing a criminal group, shoot with intent to murder and solicit to murder, after he was escorted from Queensland to NSW by the Aviation Command yesterday afternoon.

Detectives from the Criminal Groups Squad established Strike Force Parbery to investigate the circumstances surrounding a public place shooting outside a gym at Prospect on Monday 29 November 2021.

Three men have previously been charged as part of these inquiries. They remain before the courts.

Following further extensive inquiries, Strike Force Parbery detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant on Monday (24 January 2022), for a 27-year-old man, who was believed to be interstate.

The man was arrested by Queensland Police's Taskforce Maxima at Hope Island about 1.30pm on Monday before he was taken to Southport Watch House, where the warrant was executed.

NSW Police detectives applied for and were granted the man's extradition to NSW at Southport Magistrates Court yesterday (Tuesday 25 January 2022).

The man was escorted by police to Coolangatta Airport, before being flown by PolAir6 – a Cessna Grand Caravan – to Bankstown Airport.

After arriving at Aviation Command, he was escorted by the Raptor Squad to Bankstown Police Station.

He was charged with two counts of solicit, encourage, persuade etc to murder, four counts of shoot at with intent to murder, fire firearm in public place, acquire pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order, three counts of supply prohibited firearm to unauthorised person, three counts of acquire firearm-subject prohibition order, and acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order.

These charges relate to his alleged role in the public place shooting at Prospect.

He was also charged with two counts of knowingly direct activities of criminal group, two counts of large commercial drug supply, contravene serious crime prevention order.

Detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad's Strike Force Reckon also charged the man with take/detain in company with intent to get advantage occasion actual bodily harm.

Police will allege in court that the man was involved in kidnapping, detaining, and assaulting a 24-year-old man on Saturday 18 September 2021.

He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Wednesday 26 January 2022).
