Man in custody after body found in Roselands home

A man remains under police guard in hospital after the body of an elderly man was found in his home in Roselands overnight.

Emergency services were called to a home on Hillview Street about 9.55pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 January 2023), following reports a man had been stabbed.

Officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command attended and located the body of a 91-year-old man.

Two officers were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor chemical burns before being taken to St George Hospital for assessment; they have since been released.

Fire and Rescue NSW rendered the scene safe for investigators to examine the crime scene.

About 11.15pm, a 24-year-old man was arrested nearby and has been taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.

Inquiries are now underway by detectives attached to Campsie Police Area Command, assisted by State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.

Police are investigating if the incident is domestic violence-related.
