Man in police custody after armed robbery in Austins Ferry

A man remains in police custody following an armed robbery at a supermarket in Austins Ferry this morning.

At 7.37am police responded to a report of a robbery at a small supermarket on Main Road, where a man allegedly armed with a small axe had stolen a large quantity of grocery items.

Police arrived at the store at 7.43am and arrested the alleged offender, a 60-year-old man, without incident.

No one was injured during the incident, and at no stage were staff or customers threatened.

The axed allegedly used in this robbery has been recovered by police.

Anyone who saw a man with an axe, between 7.15am and 7.40am, on Main Road, walking between Hilton Road and Wakehurst Road, is asked to come forward.
