Man killed in truck crash in Berrima

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner after a man was killed in a truck crash near Berrima early this morning, NSW Police say.

Shortly before 4am tomorrow, emergency services were alerted to a serious crash in the south bound lanes of The Hume Highway near the Medway Road off ramp.

Officers from The Hume Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Police believe that a north bound B-double truck crossed to the south bound lanes of the highway and collided with several vehicles.

The male passenger in one of those vehicles, a utility, was trapped and could not be revived.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit continue with their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

They have urged anyone who witnessed the crash, or with dash cam footage of the events leading up to it, to come forward.

The southbound lanes of the Hume Highway are closed with all traffic being diverted onto Medway Road.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area, delay their trip or find an alternate route if possible.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
