Man seriously assaulted in St Kilda East

Police are appealing for public assistance after a 33-year-old man was seriously assaulted in St Kilda East on Sunday morning. (6 October, Victoria Police say)

Police have been told a man was working, delivering packages in Wilgah Street when he was approached by an unknown man about 3.40am.

The man was aggressive and verbally abused the victim before assaulting him.

It is believed he was punched to the head and assaulted with a torch.

The offender left the victim lying unconscious on the road and fled the scene.

The Point Cook man received serious head injuries and remains in hospital.

The offender is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, aged 25 to 35-years-old, brown hair with a pale complexion, missing teeth and was wearing black rim glasses.

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and have released a digital image of a man that may assist with their enquiries.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the assault or who has information to contact Crime Stoppers.
