Man shot by police in Yagoona: Critical incident investigation

A critical incident investigation is underway after police shot an armed man at Yagoona this morning.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were called to a home in William Street, about 8.50am (Sunday 5 March 2023), responding to reports of a domestic violence-related incident.

On arrival, officers were allegedly threatened by an armed man; a Taser was deployed before a police officer discharged his firearm.

Police immediately rendered first aid to the 29-year-old man until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he died.

A critical incident team comprised of officers from State Crime Command's Homicide Squad will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
