Man wanted on warrants, charged after injuring police officer - Inner West

A man will face court today charged after a police officer was allegedly hit by a vehicle in Sydney's Inner West earlier this month.

About 10.45am on Tuesday 9 February 2021, plain clothed bike officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were patrolling the Camperdown area when they noticed a MG SUV stopped on Lambert Street, with a modified number plate.

Officers approached the vehicle and identified themselves. The driver allegedly accelerated towards them, striking the constable before running over his bicycle and driving off.

The male constable suffered minor injuries to his legs and arms.

The vehicle was recovered shortly after in nearby Gibbons Street and officers from Inner West Police Area Command, assisted by Nepean Police Area Command, have since been conducting inquiries to locate the driver.

Following inquiries, officers attached to the Nepean Proactive Crime Team attended a home on Warndon Road, Cranebrook, about 5.20pm yesterday (Thursday 25 February 2020).

During a search of the home, with the assistance of the Dog Unit, a man was found hiding in the roof cavity.

Following a struggle, the 34-year-old man was arrested before falling through the roof to a bedroom below. He continued to resist officers before being detained and taken to Penrith Police Station.

A search warrant was executed with officers seizing car keys, tools, jewellery, and credit cards, along with a Mazda utility found parked nearby, the alleged proceeds of an aggravated break and enter at Cranebrook on Tuesday (23 February 2021).

Two outstanding arrest warrants were executed with the man charged with use offensive weapon to prevent police investigation, drive motor vehicle menaces another with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (DV).

He was also charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence - people there, take & drive conveyance w/o consent of owner, or resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today (Friday 26 February 2021).
