Marine rescue - East Arnhem

Northern Territory Police responded to a distress call from three men on a boat near Alyangula overnight.

The outboard motor had broken down and they did not have any emergency equipment.

A police vessel was launched at 10pm and police were able to use radar to locate the party. The group was located safe and well 1.5 kilometres off Connexion Island. They were returned to Alyangula.

The 32-year-old skipper will be spoken to in relation to marine offences.

Senior Sergeant Tanya Woodcock said, "We would like to remind people to ensure they have the required safety gear on their vessels including, food, water, flares, life vests, GPS and a registered EPIRB. It was lucky that the trio was in mobile phone range or the outcome could have been much worse."
