NASA's Mars Rover, Perseverance, embarked on a six-month mission to search for signs of ancient life on Mars. It is the third mission to depart Earth this summer, but the first for the United States.
Perseverance was manufactured by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and was launched on the Atlas V-541 launch vehicle, built and operated by United Launch Alliance (ULA), a joint venture between Lockheed Martin Space and Boeing Defense, Space & Security.
"Yesterday's beautiful launch of the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover inspires scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs alike, to pursue, explore, and innovate through space activities for the benefit of all of Earth's inhabitants," said Ken Davidian, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of New Space: The Journal of Space Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
