Scholars interested in European law attended a conference in Praag to present their research, exchange ideas and reconnect with colleagues and friends.As Vice-Secretary General of the ELU-S, Martijn van den Brink played a pivotal role in organizing the conference.
Van den Brink was responsible for compiling the program and communicating with speakers and other participants. He organized the conference together with Marija Bartl (University of Amsterdam), Daniela Caruso (Boston University), Joseph Weiler (New York University), Candida Leone (University of Amsterdam), and the local organizers in Prague.
The conference featured a keynote speech by Věra Jourová, plenary panels and roundtables on topics such as democracy and rule of law in Europe, sustainability and social justice, gender-based misconduct in academia, and EU law's position toward the situation in Gaza. The program also featured more than 150 panels where researchers interested in law in Europe could discuss their work.
The inaugural conference of the European Law Unbound Society (ELU-S) took place from 25 to 27 September at the Law Faculty of Charles University in Prague.
The next conference takes place in Lisbon on 2-4 September 2026.
