Work is set to begin this week on the renewal of a key water main along Maxwell Avenue, with crews moving into place and boring (drilling) work expected to commence in the latter half of this week.
The project will see the replacement of the existing 100mm cast iron water main with a new 150mm poly water main, providing a more consistent water pressure and an improved level of service for surrounding properties. The new main will service approximately 70 properties, including the school.
Construction will start at the Garema Road end of Maxwell Avenue and progress towards Moad Street over the coming months.
Orange City Council has allocated $500,000 for the upgrades, which is being funded through its Water Asset Renewal Program. The works form part of Council's long-term strategy to maintain and upgrade essential water infrastructure across the city.
While every effort will be made to minimise disruption, there may be short-term impacts to water supply and driveway access for some properties during construction. Council will notify affected residents in advance of any scheduled disruptions or access changes.
Bin collection will continue as normal throughout the works, and once construction is complete, the road reserve and any impacted footpaths will be rehabilitated as close to their previous condition as possible.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2025.
