A Federal Coalition Government will help deliver improvements to the Coolamon Sport and Recreation Club which will benefit the community across a wide range of social-building activities, The Nationals' Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, has announced.
Mr McCormack said an elected Coalition Government would deliver $679,000 for a $979,000 planned upgrade which will include a new restaurant and kitchen.
Facilities for community groups to meet are also part of the plan.
Mr McCormack said the club was an important hub and meeting place in Coolamon, which does not have a town hall to hold public meetings and events.
It is a base for many Coolamon sport and recreation activities, such as Australian football, netball, cricket, golf, touch football and lawn bowling, and describes itself as the heart of the community.
Coolamon Shire Mayor, Councillor David McCann, said the club was the hub of the community.
"It's right in the middle of our sporting precinct and supports all of our community groups and sporting clubs and it's important that as the town grows, so does the club," Councillor McCann said.
Coolamon Sport and Recreation Club President, John Piltz, said the proposed redevelopment would give the community a place where up to 4,000 people could gather.
"That's where Coolamon is heading," Mr Piltz said.
"The short immediate benefits are increased capacity, the medium-term benefits will be greater funding going back into the community, more funding for sports groups, schools and community groups in the community and long-term benefits are massive financial benefits for the town of Coolamon."
Mr Piltz thanked Mr McCormack for fighting for Coolamon residents to have better facilities.
"Michael's advocacy is appreciated; he understands what we are trying to do for the community," Mr Piltz said.
Mr McCormack said the investment was part of The Nationals' continuing commitment to delivering better facilities for rural and regional Australians.
