The development of new female friendly changerooms at McPherson Oval in North Wagga Wagga, is in its final stages.
The North Wagga Saints Football Netball Club was awarded funding through the NSW Government's Level the Playing Field Grant Program in 2024 to support the construction.
The project, which has been delivered by the North Wagga Football and Netball Club and overseen by Wagga Wagga City Council, commenced in June last year (2025) with the installation of a new sewer connection for both the new and existing facilities.
Council's Project Supervisor Brian Whiteley says this work was followed by placing the slab, the block work, installing the trusses, the steel work for the verandas, the plumbing and electrical fit-out, wrapping up with the installation of the internal fittings in the changerooms.
"The last sections of tiling in the showers and toilets were completed this week, with line marking on the new accessible parking bays taking place on Friday (20 February)," Mr Whiteley said.
"There are just a few finishing touches and the final site clean-up to go. I think the club and all the players who will use the new facility will be pleased with what's been produced."
"They will have four multi-use female change rooms, showers and amenities, two along the front of the building facing the oval, and two at the back opposite the netball courts.
"Other facilities include a dedicated space for officials and new security measures such as CCTV and swipe card access to the building. It provides a safer environment for everyone who uses the oval, particularly the female athletes who play netball or Aussie Rules at the oval."
Council worked with the North Wagga Saints Football Netball Club to ensure the design of the new amenities building would meet its requirements in terms of functionality, safety and accessibility.
Below are a selection of images taken throughout the construction process.
In addition to the accessible parking bays, there are concrete verandas and paths around the outside of the building, with the concrete stretching down to the boundary fence and ramps for access to the veranda and to the oval itself.
The project is consistent with Council's broader initiative to improve its sporting facilities and infrastructure to create safer spaces for women in sport and improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
It is expected North Wagga Saints Football Netball Club will host an official opening of the facility once all aspects of the project have been completed.
