Mila Rd Sealed Section Upgrades Near Completion

Upgrades & maintenance on sealed section of Mila Rd nearing completion

Mila Road maintenance progress, December 2023

Residential and business motorists travelling along Mila Road between Craigie and Monaro Highway are enjoying significant improvements to this important regional road, thanks to Council's continuing road maintenance and infrastructure upgrade project that commenced in August 2023.

Improvements to culvert drainage along the route are now complete, protecting road users and the road surface from the effects of wet weather and water run-off. Better drainage ensures that the community will be able to enjoy the renewed and upgraded Mila Road well into the future.

Recent rains have delayed work on this project, with the expected completion date for the remaining resealing and resurfacing works pushed back until at least January 2024.

Work on the unsealed sections of Mila Road is scheduled to begin from February 2024, once improvements to the sealed sections are complete. Weather permitting, work on both sections of Mila Road is set for completion in April 2024.

Located roughly 11 kilometres south of Bombala, Mila Road serves as a vital connection between rural communities in the Craigie area and the Monaro Highway. With evenly split sections of sealed and unsealed road surface, the condition of Mila Road had been particularly affected over successive years of heavy rains.

Also serving as an important artery for the local forestry industry, Council sought and secured grant funding to undertake this project of maintenance and upgrade works for the entire 20.2 kilometre length of this important route.

These improvements to Mila Road are only possible thanks to the generous support of the NSW Government, by way of Transport for NSW grants awarded under the Fixing Local Roads Round 3 and Regional and Local Road Repair Program funding streams.

December is shaping up to be a busy month for road maintenance across the Snowy Monaro. Through the remaining weeks of 2023, continuing work on Mila Road will be joined by additional resealing projects scheduled for roads throughout the wider region.

Resealing schedule for the week of Monday 11 December 2023, weather permitting:

  • Monday 11 December – Middlingbank Road and Bobeyan Road
  • Tuesday 12 December – Bobeyan Road
  • Wednesday 13 December – Delegate Road
  • Thursday 14 December – Delegate Road
  • Friday 15 December – Tinderry Road
  • Saturday 16 December – Spare day to complete any weather-delayed work

These dates are subject to change. Council expects to complete resealing of the listed roads by Friday 22 December 2023, weather permitting.
