Mildura Sports Hub Buzzes with Indoor Floor Revamp

Regular Mildura Sporting Precinct (MSP) users will have noticed some different sights and sounds in recent days as work progresses on-schedule to replace the indoor court hall flooring.

The flooring is being replaced due to leaks from a water bubbler and air-conditioning unit, at no cost to Council.

Council's General Manager Infrastructure and Assets Daryl Morgan said the old flooring has already been removed and dryers operating to ensure the concrete slab is completely dry before the new flooring is installed.

"We're pleased with the rapid progress that has already been made by our contractor as we want to complete these works as quickly as possible and get user groups back inside, and so far we're well on track," Mr Morgan said.

"While this work is underway, regular users may see a few changes around the precinct, such as the black plastic that has been erected around the courts.

"As you can imagine with this type of work, it creates quite a bit of dust and we don't want this spreading to other areas.

"This will ensure work can continue as quickly as possible without impacting other areas of the precinct."

Other precautionary steps include raising the court dividing nets, wrapping the stadium seating and air-conditioning ductwork.

Mr Morgan said other smaller works would be carried out at the precinct while the flooring was in-transit, including re-applying preventative pest control treatment and some additional concreting around the site of the water bubbler that leaked.

"Obviously we're disappointed that the flooring was damaged and is being replaced, but it's actually a good opportunity with the flooring removed for us to thoroughly inspect the concrete and other areas normally hidden by the flooring.

"I'm pleased to say no other issues have been detected, there are no signs of any pest control issues, such as termites, and no indication of any damage or problem with the concreting."

General Manager Healthy Communities Mark Jenkins highlighted the flexibility and willingness of local secondary schools, particularly Chaffey Secondary College, St Joseph's College and Trinity College to provide venues for the indoor sporting user groups while the flooring is being replaced.

"I can't overstate how critical our local schools have been as part of this process," Mr Jenkins said.

"They've gone over and above to help us ensure every indoor sporting group has a venue and high-quality facilities to continue their fixtures.

"It really does illustrate what can be achieved through positive partnerships with our community, in this case our local schools, who've been amazing in terms of their flexibility and the effort they've put in to support Council and the sporting user groups."

Once the current minor works are completed, and the new flooring arrives, work will get underway on the installation in coming weeks.
