Millions continue to support independent cinemas

The Australian Government continues to support the recovery of the arts and entertainment sector through the Supporting Cinemas' Retention Endurance and Enhancement of Neighbourhoods (SCREEN) Fund.

The Government provided $10.440 million as an initial response to support the recovery of the independent cinema sector from the impacts of COVID-19.

A further $9 million was offered and $7.3 million in funding has been approved for 125 cinema sites under round two of the Screen Fund.

The Fund supports eligible independent cinema operators that have experienced significant declines in revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic with grants of up to $85,000, to support their resurgence from prolonged closures and capacity restrictions.

To date the Fund has supported 200 independent cinema sites across the country keep their doors open, continue offering employment opportunities, and continue to showcase diverse stories to entertain communities.

The SCREEN Fund is administered by Screen Australia and applications are open until 30 April 2022 or until total funds are committed.
